About FindataFox

Free institutional ownership analytics built on SEC 13F filings.

What is FindataFox?

FindataFox is a free tool that lets you see which hedge funds, mutual funds, and other large institutions own shares of any publicly traded stock. We process data from SEC EDGAR 13F filings and present it in clean, actionable dashboards — no paywall, no account required.

What Are 13F Filings?

Every institutional investment manager with at least $100 million in qualifying assets must file a 13F-HR (Holdings Report) with the SEC each quarter. These filings disclose every equity position the manager holds, including the number of shares and market value.

13F filings are due 45 days after each quarter ends. This means filings for Q1 (ending March 31) are due by mid-May, Q2 by mid-August, Q3 by mid-November, and Q4 by mid-February. Over 8,000 institutions file 13F reports each quarter.

How We Collect Data

Our automated pipeline processes data directly from SEC EDGAR — the same primary source used by Bloomberg, Reuters, and other financial data providers.

1. Collect

Parse 13F-HR filings from SEC EDGAR for 8,000+ institutions every quarter.

2. Enrich

Map CUSIPs to tickers, resolve company names, and cross-reference with XBRL financial data.

3. Analyze

Calculate ownership percentages, crowding scores, and quarter-over-quarter changes.

What You Can Do

  • Look up any stock — see how many institutions hold it, total shares held, and ownership percentage.
  • Track ownership trends — view 8 quarters of institutional ownership history with interactive charts.
  • Detect crowding — our crowding analysis flags stocks where institutional positioning is unusually concentrated.
  • See ownership flows — Sankey diagrams show how institutional capital moves between positions each quarter.
